Ambition: Explain the Afghanistan Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (AETI), its purpose and impacts. About 60 people from the provincial directorates of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) and the Ministry of Finance (MoF), civil society and the private sector attended the seminar. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s project for promoting Good Governance in the Extractive Sector in Afghanistan funded and organised the activity in cooperation with the AEITI secretariat and the MoMP.

The eight kilometres long canal will increase the water supply for the Bangi district. As a result, 250 additional hectares of land will be farmable, bringing the total area of farmable land to 3,750 jerib (750 hectares). More than 7,500 people will directly benefit from the activity. The German government funds the construction works via the Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) at a cost of approximately AFN 40 million.

Kofab is one of the most vulnerable districts to natural disasters in Badakhshan, but the newly planted trees will help to protect residents’ farmland, orchards and residential houses from seasonal avalanches and landslides. Around 1,600 people living in those villages will directly benefit from this forestation programme. The German government funded the project at a total cost of nearly AFN 2 million.

Today, Afghanistan’s Deputy Minister of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Prof. Rahil Muhammad Formuly, together with Senior Advisor to the President, Dr. Mohammad Qayoumi, officially announced the expansion of reformed technical and vocational education for Afghan apprentices. In the future – and on a countrywide level – apprentices will receive enhanced education, including both theoretical training and practical work.

The event provided a platform for professional exchange where interns could share their experiences and impressions. Moreover, they had the opportunity to discuss career options with lawyers from university and legal institutions. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s project for the promotion of the rule of law (RoL) organised and financed the preceding internships as well as the networking activity.

Today, the Independent Joint Anti-Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Committee (MEC) released its Vulnerability to Corruption Assessment (VCA) on the Attorney General´s Office (AGO). The study identifies vulnerabilities that made corruption possible which affect the AGO’s task to prosecute properly. Supporting the AGO in fighting corruption, enhancing its openness to scrutiny, increasing transparency and promoting additional monitoring mechanisms – all these activities shall help rebuilding confidence in the AGO. The German funded programme Open Policy Advisory Fund (OPAF) supported MEC in conducting the study.

valueless bank notes that show anti-corruption messages are now disseminated in Balkh province – for three months. The notes shall be used against corruptive behaviour in protest to bribery in return for services that are supposed to be free. Ambition: encouraging discussions about corruption amongst public officials and Afghan citizens. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s project for the promotion of the rule of law (RoL) funds this activity.

Yesterday, the Afghan-German Cooperation handed over a Teacher Training College (TTC), two newly constructed school buildings and one irrigation canal construction to the local government in Baghlan province. The German government funded these four construction projects at a total cost of more than AFN 50 million via the Stabilisation Programme for Northern Afghanistan (SPNA).

Another ten schools located in Aibak in Samangan province will receive similar equipment during the next weeks. About 30,000 female students will benefit from improved physical education (PE) classes. The German government funded the new equipment at a total cost of roughly AFN 1.2 million.
