Improving Access to Education: Three Girls’ High Schools for 14,000 Students in Takhar

Yesterday, Takhar’s Provincial Education Department (PED) and the Afghan-German Cooperation signed the respective contracts for constructing three girls’ high schools in the province. The schools will provide an adequate learning environment for more than 14,000 students. Construction works are estimated to last for 30 months and include rehabilitating existing buildings and constructing new facilities. The Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) supports the PED in implementing the projects. The Afghan-German Cooperation funds the schools’ construction via KfW Development Bank at a total cost of about AFN 258 million.

Improving Infrastructure in Afghanistan: Rehabilitated Road Will Benefit more than 72,000 Citizens in Balkh

Last weekend, the ground-breaking ceremony for the reconstruction of a road connecting the towns Sajadia and Amiri took place in Mazar-e Sharif, Balkh. The road is almost four kilometres long and is located in the district Nahr-e Shari. Provincial government officials and representatives of the Afghan-German Cooperation attended the event. More than 72,000 citizens will benefit from improved traffic conditions. Balkh’s Department of Rural Rehabilitation and Development implements the project and monitors construction works. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) finances the activity at a total cost of about AFN 110 million.

Officials and Stakeholders in Mazar-e Sharif Learn about AEITI – Afghan Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative

Yesterday, a regional awareness workshop on AEITI took place in Mazar-e Sharif. About 30 people from the provinces of Balkh Jowzjan, Sar-e Pul, Samangan and Baghlan attended the event. Participants included government officials and stakeholders from civil society, the private sector and the media. AEITI implemented the workshop. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme for promoting good governance in the Afghan extractive sector financed and supported the activity.

Promoting Gender Equality in the Mining Sector: Awareness Workshop in Mazar-e Sharif

Yesterday, 20 male and female staff of Balkh province’s Directorate of Mines and Petroleum (DoMP) and the state-owned enterprise Kod-e-Barq completed a three-day workshop on the role of gender in the mining sector. The activity aimed at promoting female participation in the extractive industry. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme for promoting good governance in the Afghan extractive sector financed and implemented the workshop together with the Afghan Ministry of Mines and Petroleum’s (MoMP’s) Gender Unit.

New Irrigation Infrastructure in Badakhshan Benefits 13,000 Citizens

Yesterday, the Afghan-German Cooperation handed over a rehabilitated and extended irrigation canal and an office building for the local Water User Association to the governor’s office of Teshkan district. In the area, more than 13,000 citizens now benefit from improved watering of agricultural land. That will help boosting local economy and thus strongly improve living conditions. The Stabilisation Programme Northern Afghanistan (SPNA) financed both projects at a total cost of almost AFN 30 million.

For Prosperity & Economic Growth: Improved Infrastructure in the Province Samangan Benefitting 22,000 Citizens

Today, officials of Samangan’s Public Works Department, representing the respective ministry in the province, and the Afghan-German Cooperation signed a contract for improving important traffic connections. Between the provincial capital Aybak and the village of Dara-e Zhowandon, three kilometres of asphalted road will be constructed. Further, a new 800-metres long gravel road will link Dara-e Zhowandon to the highway that leads to Mazar-e Sharif and Kabul. More than 22,000 citizens will benefit from these constructions. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) finances the activity at a total cost of about AFN 90 million.

Improving Education: Six New Schools in Badakhshan Benefit 4,000 Students

Feyzabad, Badakhshan, 15th July 2018 – Yesterday, the Afghan-German Cooperation handed over six newly constructed schools to Badakhshan’s Provincial Education Department (PED). The schools are located in the districts of Argo, Darayem, Kishem, Tagab, Teshkan and Shahr-e Buzurg. In total, more than 4,000 female and male students will benefit from an improved learning environment. The Afghan-German Cooperation supported the PED in implementing the projects and funded the schools’ construction at a total cost of about AFN 134 million via KfW Development Bank.

New Huquq Office in Shuhada, Badakhshan to Benefit 50,000 Citizens

Yesterday, representatives of Badakhshan’s Governor Office, line departments and civil society attended the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Huquq office in Shuhada district. The province’s Department of Justice provides the building land and is responsible for monitoring the construction works. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme for strengthening the rule of law in Afghanistan (RoL) funds the project at a total cost of about AFN 4.4 million. Around 50,000 citizen in the district will benefit from improved access to justice.

New Teacher Training Centre (TTC) in Kunduz for up to 1.000 Students

The Afghan-German Cooperation handed over a Teacher Training Centre (TTC) to Kunduz province’s Department of Education (DoE). The centre has capacities for up to 1.000 students in the district of Dasht-e Archi. More than 100 teachers, both male and female, will graduate from the centre each year. The Stabilisation Programme Northern Afghanistan (SPNA) financed the centre’s construction at a total cost of almost AFN 43 million. The DoE monitored the project’s implementation and will operate the TTC in the future.

Promoting Agricultural Development: Experts and Journalists Discuss Media’s Role
