Today, the Afghan-German Cooperation’s Civil Peace Service (ZFD) held the Peace Photography Competition award ceremony in the Queens Palace of Babur Garden in Kabul for young Afghans from different ethnic and religious groups. More than 200 young male and female Afghans, who submitted a photo or excelled in other peace activities, attended the event.

50 people, including representatives of local and provincial authorities, the National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) and civil society organisations (CSOs) attended the event. The centre operates as a bakery as well as a training facility for apprentices. Ten local women found a permanent job in the centre. The Afghan-German Cooperation initiated and financed the project while the Balkh Directorate of Women Affairs (DoWA) provided the land for the centre’s construction.

Yesterday, the District Development Assemblies (DDAs) of three districts in Balkh province, including Dehadi, Balkh and Nahr-e Shahi, received meeting hall equipment. The new equipment included sound systems, power generators, digital cameras, heaters and other necessary articles for holding meetings successfully. The Department of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (DRRD) provided the equipment, supported by the Afghan-German Cooperation. The total costs amount to more than AFN 1 million.

During the closing ceremony, the head of the MoMP’s mining inspection directorate, Eng. Mohammad Ali Behsoodi, commented: “We appreciate that the Afghan-German Cooperation funds these courses. The training will greatly help the mines inspectors when working for our oversight programmes. They will now be able to standardise mining activities in Afghanistan in line with international norms and standards. Their increased capacities will be utilised on national and subnational level.”

Yesterday, officials of Balkh province signed a contract for reconstructing the two kilometres Dasht-e-Shor road in Nahri Shahi district, Balkh. The reconstruction will ease commute, trade and help to prevent floods, thus benefitting up to 134,000 residents. The Afghan-German Cooperation finances the reconstruction with approximately AFN 97 million.

Around 160 poultry farmers, suppliers and representatives from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and businesses from Kabul and the provinces Balkh, Baghlan, Kunduz, Jalalabad participated in the conference. The Afghan-German Cooperation, the Balkh Poultry and Livestock Union (BPLU) and the Balkh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) jointly organized the event in order to boost the poultry industry in Afghanistan.

Yesterday, the impACT Kabul start-up conference took place in Afghanistan’s capital. Successful Af-ghan entrepreneurs, including returnees from all over the world, presented their start-up businesses to roughly 250 participants and explained what it takes to succeed in Afghanistan. AGHAEZ, BookClub Afghanistan and Philia jointly organised the event, supported by the Afghan-German Co-operation’s programme for sustainable economic development and employment promotion in Af-ghanistan (SEDEP).

Yesterday, the Social Development & Better Future for Afghanistan Organisation (SDBFAO) started another anti-corruption campaign in Balkh: anti-corruption drawings in the form of graffiti art are painted on popular walls in Mazar-e Sharif, the provincial capital. The anti-corruption messages aim at strengthening public awareness of corruption. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s project for the promotion of the rule of law (RoL) funds this activity.

The projects include the construction of a protection wall, a bridge and a boundary wall for a women’s garden as well as the rehabilitation of an irrigation canal and a health centre. All projects are funded by the Afghan-German Cooperation and implemented by Badakhshan’s local authorities at a total cost of over AFN 9 million. More than 42,000 Afghans will benefit from all activities.

Yesterday, the legal protection of children’s rights was discussed during a round table in Mazar-e Sharif. The 30 participants included civil society representatives from the Afghan northern provinces as well as government officials. Rushd Training and Consultancy Organisation (RTCO) organised the event, supported by the Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme to promote the rule of law in Afghanistan (RoL).
