Kabul, 9th March 2017 – Today, the National Unity Government officially presented the National Priority Plan on Women’s Economic Empowerment to its citizens. The plan aims at developing women’s capacity to strengthen their household economies, but also to positively impact Afghanistan’s overall economic development – with female contribution.

On 23rd February 2017, representatives of Balkh’s Police Headquarter, Balkh’s Department of Education and the Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme for the promotion of the rule of law in Afghanistan (RoL) gathered in Mazar-e Sharif to handover equipment to the Police Headquarters’ Police-e Mardumi department in order to adequately host community consultation meetings in Balkh province.

On 20th and 21st February 2017, Badakhshan’s Department of Justice invited 34 governmental and civil society representatives to attend a workshop focussing on the United Nations resolution 1325: “Landmark Resolution on Women, Peace and Security”. This resolution stresses women’s roles in conflict and conflict management. The Afghan-German Cooperation supported the workshop via its programme for the promotion of the rule of law in Afghanistan (RoL).

Beyond that, the state owned radio and TV station received new equipment. The German government provided funding for both the training as well as the equipment. RTA is now able to provide improved radio and TV services for Balkh’s residents.

Good work performance requires good working conditions. This also applies to Samangan’s Department of Justice (DoJ) and its provision of services. Since the inauguration of the DoJ’s office in Aybak in 2011, employees did not have access to water at their offices. Today, the Afghan-German Cooperation’s programme to promote the rule of law (RoL) handed over a new water supply system to the DoJ.

During the upcoming eight days, 190 fourth grade applicants will be assessed through a computer-based test. The new system, developed with the support of the Afghan-German Cooperation, uses objective criteria based on international standards.
