Virtual Conference, 30th June 2021 – Yesterday, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany held negotiations on development cooperation. The German government undertakes to provide the Government of Afghanistan with a new amount of about EUR 182.6 million (about AFN 17.4 billion) for bilateral cooperation. Deputy Minister of Policy, Ministry of Finance, H.E. Nazir Kabiri headed the Afghan delegation. Professor Claudia Warning, Director-General Middle East, Asia, Latin America, South-Eastern Europe and Eastern Europe, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), headed the German delegation. The conference took place virtually for the second time because of the ongoing Corona pandemic.

Worldwide about 1.9 billion women and girls menstruate every month. Menstruation is a symbol for a healthy female body than for anything else. Still, stigmatisation and missing access to proper sanitation lead to women’s and girls’ exclusion from daily routine: About 500 million girls and women face constraints during their period, influencing all aspects of their life such as education, participation, health, economics and dignity.

Due to conflict and lack of educational perspectives, Fahima fled her home at Tolak District of Ghor Province. Like so many Internally Displaced People, she struggled to build a new existence when she arrived in Herat. Then Fahima became one of 58 female tailoring trainees with the Vocational Skills Training (VST) programme.

Over the next five years, the Afghan-German Cooperation’s project Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) intends to provide training in Home Economics to more than 1.2 million women. The TVET project and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVET-A) launched the training programme on 4th May at the Presidential Palace in Kabul in the presence of H.E President Ashraf Ghani. The day was dedicated to the education sector for the President’s new initiative called 100 Days and 100 Good News. The pilot phase of the Home Economics programme aims to educate 200 women in Kabul by mid-2021. The estimated budget of the programme is AFN 149 million (EUR 1.6 million) per year.

Yesterday, provincial officials as well as representatives from Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) and the Afghan-German Cooperation inaugurated a power supply network in Samangan. The network is in the Kokjar area of Hazrat Sultan District. More than 8,000 people in the villages of Bamanchi, Malkar, Ghandaki, Tolakachi, Qazal Bash Lopan Naw, Lopan Kohna and Sadoai will enjoy reliable access to energy. About 50 people took part in the celebration at the Governor’s Office. The Afghan-German Cooperation’s Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) supported DABS with funding the project’s implementation at a total cost of about AFN 133 million.

Taloqan, Takhar, 29th March 2021 – Yesterday, provincial officials and representatives from the Afghan-German Cooperation inaugurated new school buildings in Takhar Province. More than 11,000 students will benefit from the new school buildings and renovated facilities. Around 200 people including students, parents, teachers, elders and civil society activists attended the celebration in Takhar. The Provincial Education Department (PED) implemented the projects with the technical support of the Afghan-German Cooperation’s Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF). The projects are funded at a total of about AFN 167 million.

On March 28th, the Integration of Displaced People´s Project (IDPP) reached an impressive milestone when it handed over its 1,000th shelter to a displaced family. The handover celebration took place in a settlement near Aybak City, Samangan Province. Since 2017, the project has been supporting displaced families in the provinces of Balkh, Herat, Jawzjan, and Samangan.
