After the signing of the trilateral agreement between Afghanistan’s Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of Iran (MRST) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, a group of 11 lecturers from the universities of Bamyan and Balkh and Kabul Polytechnic and 2 mining inspectors from the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum recently participated in 10 days of geological mapping training in Iran, close to the city of Qom.

Before the roadworks, the road between Balkh and-Bangala was a dusty gravel track. It was extremely narrow passing through villages and unfit to bear much motor traffic. 100,000 inhabitants in the many villages along the road were not able to reach Mazar-e-Sharif safely or quickly. With the new improvements to the road, they now have better access to the provincial capital city. Patients can reach hospitals quicker, children can now go to schools and goods can now reach markets on time.

The inventory and materials handed over by the Afghan-German cooperation programme for basic and secondary education in Afghanistan included full lab rooms, lab furniture and equipment to conduct experiments in mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology classes.

In TV ads, theatre performances, academic conferences and open debates, women and men touched upon a variety of topics. The various activities took place in Kabul, Mazar-e Sharif, Feyzabad, Kunduz and Taloqan.

The books were developed by ACSI as learning materials to train civil servants throughout the country in Independent Administrative Reform and Civil Service Commission (IARCSC) training programmes. Faculties of public administration will also use the course books as part of their syllabus taught to over 2,500 students at the universities of Balkh, Herat, Kabul, Kandahar and Nangarhar.
