The event provided the opportunity for CSOs to bring up and discuss issues of importance of Balkh’s citizens. The conference was the second of its kind to bring together CSO representatives from the provinces Balkh, Sar-e Pul, Faryab, Jawzjan and Samangan with PC members and local government officials from Balkh.

The library will give people a chance to read books who couldn’t do so otherwise. Germany supported the construction of the library as well as the purchase of the books with more than AFN 4.5 million in funding.

It provides DoUD civil servants with a better working environment, which will have a positive impact on the quality of their services for the people. Construction was supported by the German government at around AFN 25 million. The opening of the new building was celebrated by the DoUD together with the Provincial Governor’s Office (PGO) of Badakhshan, which were responsible for the construction of the building.

In this dialogue an Afghan-German team of researchers presented their findings on Gender Responsive Budgeting, compiled over the last three months. They engaged in discussions with over 30 senior representatives from institutions, such as the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Women Affairs and the Ministry of Economy. Participants also included the German Embassy and experts from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. Besides governmental institutions, members of civil society and international organisations were also present.
